UK Sport Considering Launching FIFA Ethics Committee-Style Investigations Unit

UK Sport is considering launching a FIFA ethics committee-style investigations unit in the wake of its inquiry into the scandals that "engulf British Cycling," according to Ben Rumsby of the London TELEGRAPH. The elite funding body was planning to discuss "whether it needed a permanent team in place to investigate allegations of wrongdoing in the sports it oversees." UK Sport has conducted independent reviews in other sports recently and COO Simon Morton said, "What UK Sport will be doing is looking in the next year at whether we have the right structures in place in terms of an investigatory function." Citing FIFA's ethics committee as "one example of such an independent unit," Morton added, "Rather than reinventing the wheel every time an independent review comes around, to actually have clarity on the process, I think, would be beneficial" (TELEGRAPH, 10/31).
