League Notes: WADA, Drug Maker Astellas Sign Agreement To Combat Doping

The World Anti-Doping Agency signed an agreement with Japanese drug maker Astellas Pharma Inc. to help fight doping in sports. Astellas will identify compounds it produces, including those in development, "that could be abused by athletes and share the information with the agency to help find methods of detecting the substances." The company also will cooperate with WADA "to minimize risks of such substances being misused" while they are "still in clinical trials" (AP, 10/15).

The Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens is launching the Partner Schools Programme with its first school visit to GEMS Royal Dubai School. Over 3,000 students from 15 schools across two Emirates are expected to participate in the program which encourages involvement in sport and leading a healthy lifestyle (ALBAWABA, 10/17).
