Sean Abbott felt "confused and upset" after he bowled the ball that fatally injured Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes, an inquest has been told. Hughes died aged 25 from a haemorrhage in the brain, "two days after being hit on the neck during a domestic match in Sydney" on Nov. 25, 2014. The five-day hearing is "examining if his death was avoidable." In a statement, Abbott said that "it was all a bit of a blur" and that he felt "in a bit of a daze" after the incident. The inquest has looked into whether Hughes, batting for South Australia in a Sheffield Shield game against New South Wales, "had been targeted with short balls, or had received unsettling comments from opponents" (BBC, 10/12).
The Int'l Cycling Union (UCI) announced that three cities/regions have been awarded UCI Bike City status thanks to their clear strategies to grow and encourage cycling in their communities as well as host UCI major cycling events. The successful cities/regions are Bergen, Norway; Drenthe, the Netherlands; and Limburg-Valkenburg, the Netherlands. The UCI Bike City label was relaunched in '15 with the aim of recruiting cities and regions that can act as inspiring examples of how cycling can help to create better, safer and more active communities (UCI).
The Indonesian FA (PSSI) and the Ministry of Youth & Sport have "agreed to move the disputed venue for the next congress of the sport's national governing body to Jakarta," ministry spokesperson Gatot Dewa Broto said on Wednesday. The government "initially asked for the congress to be moved to Yogyakarta, while PSSI officials wanted to have the reconciliation meeting in Makassar, South Sulawesi." However, after discussing the matter, "both parties agreed that Jakarta would be a fair middle ground" (JAKARTA GLOBE, 10/12).
