Construction Underway On Sunderland's $23M Beacon Of Light Center

Construction company Tolent has "started work on the creation" of the £18M ($23M) Beacon of Light center in Sunderland, according to Coreena Ford of CHRONICLE LIVE. The Beacon of Light "promises to be a unique education and sports facility," providing a permanent base for the Sunderland AFC-backed Foundation of Light, which now has school status. Tyneside-based FaulknerBrowns "drew up plans for the building." Gateshead-based Tolent Construction, which won the tender to build the Beacon, "will now carry out the two-phase project to create a striking building which will fuse together sport, education, the world of work, health and well-being." The cube-shaped development "will house education and training facilities with an indoor football pitch above" (CHRONICLE LIVE, 10/5).
