Execs Consider Delaying 2017 Tarragona Mediterranean Games Due To Funding Issues

The 2017 Mediterranean Games in Tarragona, Spain, "could be delayed by one year," according to EL PERIÓDICO. This idea was proposed at a meeting between the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE) and the Int'l Committee of Mediterranean Games (CJIM) on Monday in Madrid. This "could be a possible solution to the lack of state financing." The Spanish government faces a budget shortage for '17, which includes €9M ($10M) that it is supposed to allocate to holding the Mediterranean Games next summer. In addition to the financing, "there is also uncertainty around the infrastructure, which is being built on a deadline and is expected to be completed just days before the start of the event" (EL PERIÓDICO, 10/5).
