Expansion Work Will Resume At Roland Garros After Nine-Month Stoppage

After a pause of close to nine months, “work will resume” on the expansion of Paris’ Roland Garros stadium, according to LE PARISIEN. Sources said that work “should resume on Tuesday.” The Conseil d’Etat announced on Monday that it “canceled the suspension of the building permit” for the expansion of the tennis stadium. Last March, the building permit was ruled illegal by the judge of the Administrative Court, “citing several associations opposing the project (LE PARISIEN, 10/3). LE MONDE reported the French Tennis Federation (FFT) plans to build a court on the perimeter of the Auteuil garden greenhouses, “in an area with some greenhouses that are considered to be without architectural value.” The Conseil d’Etat overturned the work ban because of the “nature and character of the planned project, which has architecture similar to the historic Auteuil greenhouses, which will be left intact” (LE MONDE, 10/3).
