Event Notes: Yas Marina Circuit To Host New Formula 4 UAE Championship

Yas Marina Circuit, in partnership with Automobile & Touring Club UAE, on Tuesday announced it will be the home of the new Formula 4 UAE Championship, due to debut at the Formula 1 circuit on Oct. 28. This year will be the circuit’s most comprehensive calendar of local motorsport, fitness, corporate entertainment, and driving and passenger experiences since '09, with more than 377 activities scheduled over the next 12 months. The FIA-accredited Formula 4 UAE championship is "one of the most important additions to the UAE’s local motorsport calendar this year" and is the first of its kind in the Middle East and Africa (GULF NEWS, 9/27).

Ironman announced that the 2016 Hefei Wanda City Ironman 70.3 Hefei triathlon, which will be held in Hefei, Anhui province, on Oct. 16, is sold out and registration has now closed. The preparation for the first offering in China of the Ironman 70.3 triathlon series is "going smoothly" as Hefei looks to use this opportunity to develop itself into a "city of sports." The event has attracted more than 1,600 athletes from 58 countries and regions (XINHUA, 9/27).

The Int'l Motorcycling Federation (FIM) and Dorna WSBK Organisation announced the creation of the WorldSSP 300 Championship for '17. This production-based platform is designed to be the new beginner class for the WorldSBK Championship, feeding the higher categories with talents in the near future. The category is devoted to building rider potential and discovering talents worldwide, with a minimum rider entry age of 15 (World SBK).
