Scotland's Turnberry Golf Club Completes $130M Renovation Project

U.S. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump "recently completed renovation of Turnberry Golf Club in Scotland," according to Richard Waite of the ARCHITECTS' JOURNAL. The £100M ($130.2M) project, which was completed this summer, was "overseen by 3DReid in collaboration with conservation specialist Peter Drummond Architects and Covell Matthews Architects." Trump, who bought the club in South Ayrshire for around £32M in '14, asked the design team "to update the 1904 hotel (by James Miller) and remodel 103 guest rooms as well as the bars, restaurants and ballroom." The 1878 Turnberry Lighthouse has "also been fully restored and converted by Peter Drummond Architects" into a £3,500 ($4,556)-per-night two-bedroom presidential suite. Turnberry is not the only Scottish golf club "on the books of the tycoon’s company, the Trump Organisation." He also owns Trump Int'l Golf Links at Menie, near Aberdeen. However an "ambitious" £1B ($1.3B) expansion plan for the course, originally masterplanned by Gareth Hoskins eight years ago, "has stalled." Trump "halted progress on the scheme following a row" over a proposed £33.3M offshore wind farm in '12 (AJ, 9/27).
