ManU To Be Forced To Pay Bastian Schweinsteiger $17.9M To Release Him

ManU will reportedly have to pay Bastian Schweinsteiger’s wages in full -- worth a total of £13.8M ($17.9M) -- to release the player, according to Samuel Lovett of the London INDEPENDENT. The 32-year-old "has been deemed surplus to requirements" under Manager José Mourinho and has "subsequently been forced to train with the club’s reserve team." Although the German has two years left on his contract, Mourinho "has allegedly told the player that he has no future" at ManU. Schweinsteiger "now wants the remainder of his deal paid in full" if he were to leave Old Trafford. With 18 months left of his £150,000 ($194,500)-a-week contract, it would reportedly cost the club around £13.8M to force the player’s departure "but the club are hoping to a reach a compromise with Schweinsteiger’s representatives." It is understood that he is "open to the idea of moving to Major League Soccer in America which follows a statement he released in August" in which he revealed that ManU "will be my last club in Europe" (INDEPENDENT, 9/23).
