League Notes: League 1 Rugby Club York City Knights Remain Ineligible For Promotion

The Rugby Football League confirmed that the York City Knights are not "currently eligible for promotion to the Kingstone Press Championship" should the club qualify for and win the League One promotional final due to be played on Oct. 2. Despite working with the club over recent weeks, the York City Knights have been "unable to provide the RFL with security of tenure at a ground that meets the necessary standards" until the end of the '17 season (RUNNING RUGBY, 9/22).

Int'l Cricket Council CEO David Richardson said that Pakistan officials "must satisfy the concerns of visiting security experts if they want to host major teams again." Most int'l sides have "stayed away from Pakistan since an Islamist militant attack on the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore" in '09, which killed eight people and injured several cricketers. Richardson: "It’s actually quite easy for you to convince me that international cricket returns to Pakistan, but unfortunately it’s not me or the ICC that needs to be convinced. It’s the security experts, it’s the security consultants who are advising the players, advising the teams, and that’s really out of our control" (AFP, 9/22).
