League Notes: New British Universities & Colleges Sport Super Rugby League Launches

A new British Universities & Colleges Sport Super Rugby league has been launched for the '16-17 season as part of a new partnership with the Rugby Football Union. The league will comprise eight of the best men's university sides across England and Wales with matches each week. The final will be held at Twickenham next year. The teams featured in the league will be: University of Bath, Cardiff Metropolitan, Durham, Exeter, Hartpury College, Leeds Beckett, Loughborough and Northumbria (RFU). 

MINISTER MEET-UP: South Korean Minister of Culture, Sports & Tourism Cho Yoon-sun "will attend a conference with her Chinese and Japanese counterparts at PyeongChang, the host city of the 2018 Winter Olympics, this week to seek cooperation in sports." The meeting "follows a trilateral summit" among South Korean President Park Geun-hye, Japanese PM Shinzo Abe and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang that took place in Seoul in Nov. '15. The three leaders then agreed to "promote trilateral exchanges to enhance sports cooperation and share experiences" (YONHAP, 9/20).

EMBRACE CHANGE: Former Australian cricketer Greg Chappell said that today's cricketers "must harness the progressive spirit of Kerry Packer’s World Series Cricket pioneers and embrace the game’s pink ball revolution." Chappell has urged doubters in the playing ranks to realize "how important the pink ball is for cricket's future." There have been "some rumblings of discontent from players about two pink ball Tests this summer," but Chappell said that players "must move with the times and embrace the new frontier" (HERALD SUN, 9/20).
