Setanta Sports has "become the exclusive rights holder" of the Premier League in Kazakhstan for the next three seasons, starting '16-17. Setanta Sports Kazakhstan, a dedicated EPL channel, made its debut in Sept. 16 and will "broadcast up to six live games a week." Setanta Sports Kazakhstan will be the third Setanta Sports Channel "available in the market, joining Setanta Sports and Setanta Sports +, which offer La Liga, Serie A, Ligue 1 and Bundesliga" (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 9/19).
DENIED: A regional newspaper editor has "decided that one of her sports reporters should not cover Premier League football team Sunderland because he once made derogatory references to it on Facebook." Joy Yates told readers of the Sunderland Echo that Liam Kennedy will no longer write in the paper about the local club following “a large number of complaints” about comments he made about the team before he joined the Echo staff. According to a HoldTheFrontpage article, Kennedy "made the comments six years ago" (London GUARDIAN, 9/19).
NEW SHOW: ESPN announced the debut of Nación ESPN, a new interactive sports talk show dedicated to covering the most relevant and diverse sports news and information tailored to young, bilingual U.S. Hispanic sports fans. Nación ESPN will be hosted by three ESPN commentators: Jorge Sedano, co-host of ESPNLA's Mornings with Keyshawn and Jorge and LZ; Bernardo Osuna, ESPN's bilingual sports authority, boxing reporter and host of ESPN Deportes' A Los Golpes; and ESPNDeportes.com baseball reporter Marly Rivera (ESPN).
