Football Notes: Swedish Club AIK Has Oldest Members Take Pitch As Mascots

Swedish football club AIK "tried a new initiative at the weekend, when the oldest living members of the club entered the pitch as mascots" for the league match against Gefle IF. The senior citizens replaced the regular mascots with former UEFA President and honorary club president Lennart Johansson "leading the way." The idea was "part of a campaign to promote ticket discounts and free shuttle buses to and from retirement homes" (London GUARDIAN, 9/19).

At Spanish second division side Sevilla Atlético's home game on Sunday against Huesca, "the relocation of fans was the story of the match." Sevilla Atlético, "fearing a sanction from La Liga for not filling the section of the stadium visible on the TV broadcast, ordered fans from shaded sections to move to that side, which faced the sun" (EL CONFIDENCIAL, 9/19).
