Rangers Supporters Group Wants Celtic Fans Banned After 'Overtly Sectarian' Actions

Scottish Premiership side Rangers' supporters group Club 187 has "urged the Ibrox board to ban Celtic fans from their ground after sickening scenes at Parkhead on Saturday," according to Darren Cooney of the Scotland DAILY RECORD. The umbrella group wrote to Rangers directors on the back of "overtly sectarian" actions from Hoops supporters before, during and "after the 5-1 derby demolition of Mark Warburton's side." Fans were repulsed by "the shameful acts of hanging effigies wearing Rangers scarves as well as deeply offensive banners" that read "know your place hun scum" and "KAH" -- an acroymn they claim stands for "kill all huns" -- while other messages came out in support of the IRA. Now Club 1872 wants Rangers Chair Dave King to "impose a ban of Celtic supporters from their next match" which takes place on Dec. 31. The group accused Celtic CEO Peter Lawwell of "encouraging and cultivating" the Green Brigade who displayed the banners. The statement said, "The Green Brigade has been cultivated, encouraged and rewarded by Peter Lawwell and the Celtic board for many years. So much so that at the beginning of this year they received their own standing section within Celtic Park. This is despite regular displays in support of active terrorist groups, anti-semitic displays and sectarian displays" (DAILY RECORD, 9/12).
