China "has been accused of systematic doping after three members of the national squad were banned for testing positive for the same substance as a team-mate who was disqualified at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro last month." According to sources in Beijing, the three, including a Bronze Medalist at London 2012, "were banned after testing positive for hydrochlorothiazide, a masking agent." Sources said, "That all these swimmers test positive for the same masking agent, which cleans out their system ahead of testing, indicates a systematic network of doping athletes. There is a deep problem and there are rogues working in the sport" (LONDON TIMES, 9/7).
'SYMBOLS OF ABILITY': The Int'l Paralympic Committee is partnering with worldwide Paralympic partner Samsung to provide 30 leading Paralympians from countries including Brazil, U.S., South Korea, Great Britain, France, Spain and more the chance to record exclusive behind-the-scenes video blogs before and during the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.
The project is part of Samsung’s Rio 2016 Paralympic Games campaign, "Symbols of Ability," which highlights athletes’ abilities over their disabilities (IPC).
FINGERS CROSSED: Kenya Sports Minister Hassan Wario believes the IOC "will not ban the country from international competition after he disbanded their national affiliate over issues of corruption and mismanagement." Wario on Tuesday insisted that the National Olympics Committee of Kenya "is not above the law and will remain disbanded." He said that "he will carry out the task of convincing IOC of the same" (IANS, 9/7).
