Optus Customer Goes To TV Watchdog Over 'False And Misleading' Premier League Ads

Optus’s English Premier League "headaches threaten to worsen, with doubts raised" about the telecom’s technical capacity to provide a premium service, according to David Swan of THE AUSTRALIAN. Some customers have "accused Optus of misleading the public with its claim to provide live coverage." Customer David Feeney of Sydney has complained to the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission that Optus breached the commission’s “false and misleading” provisions by advertising the English football broadcasts as “live” when they were consistently delayed 45 to 60 seconds. This weekend is "shaping up as a key test for Optus with a blockbuster match," Man City against ManU, and the telecom updating its EPL app to improve performance. An Optus spokesperson acknowledged “teething problems” and complaints from customers. She said that the delay was "inherent in the technology" (THE AUSTRALIAN, 9/7).
