Media Notes: Channel 4 Drops Prix De L'Arc De Triomphe Over Costs

Viewers without access to At The Races or Racing UK are "set to miss out" on the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe after Channel 4 took the decision to "drop Europe's most prestigious prize." Channel 4 insisted the move was "taken purely owing to costs." A Channel 4 spokesperson said, "We are not going to be showing the Arc. As the race is this year being staged at Chantilly there were inflated media rights costs. Channel 4 therefore took the decision not to cover the race and to instead focus on British racing" (RACING POST, 9/3).

IN FRANCEBeIN Sports announced that it will continue to offer broadcasts of the NBA to French TV viewers. The Qatari-owned channel said that starting on Oct. 26, all 154 matches of the regular season, the All-Star weekend, all 80 playoff games and the NBA Finals will be shown (beIN Sports). ... BeIN Sports also announced it “will broadcast the African Cup of Nations 2017 on its channels.” The 16-team competition, hosted in Gabon in January and February, will be shown “live and in its entirety on beIN Sports” in France (SPORTBUZZ BUSINESS, 9/6). ... The Handball channel of beIN Sports, beIN Sports 1, will “broadcast the semifinal match of the Super Globe 2016” between Paris St. Germain and Kielce. The eight-team club handball competition is being played in Doha, Qatar. BeIN Sports 1 will “also broadcast the final on Thursday” (MEDIA SPORTIF, 9/6).

TALKSPORT EPL SPOT: TalkSPORT is launching a TV campaign to highlight its "unrivalled sports coverage." Designed by Lionhouse Creative, the ad "features animated 3D typography on a black background that hammers home the station’s selling points, including exclusive live Premier League games." It will run "exclusively on ITV from Saturday in a campaign planned by Mindshare" (CAMPAIGN LIVE, 9/6).

Top14 rugby side Stade Toulousain announced its fan entertainment strategy with VOGO to implement the VOGO Sport app at the club's stadium, the Stade Ernest-Wallon in Toulouse, starting with the '16-17 season. VOGO Sport will be accessible through the official mobile app for Stade Toulousain, to which it adds new functionalities including slow-motion replays, different angles and zooming in on action on the pitch (VOGO). 

Turkcell's TV platform Turkcell TV+ became the official broadcaster of the English Premier League in Turkey. The Premier League will be broadcast on Turkcell TV+ through IPTV and mobile devices for the next three years. Among the mobile operators in Turkey, Turkcell, through Turkcell TV+, has become the "exclusive" mobile broadcaster of the league (Turkcell).
