Inter Milan's New Chinese Owners Optimistic About Club's Future

Inter Milan's new Chinese owners "are optimistic about the future of the Serie A club" and hope to "return them to the top of European football again," according to Ben Gladwell of ESPN.com. The Suning Group "completed a takeover of the Nerazzurri this summer, acquiring a majority stake from previous owner Erick Thohir, who has remained as president with a minority stake, and the club's previous president Massimo Moratti." They "invested heavily this summer." Suning General Dir Yang Yang said, "We have set ourselves objectives and we're confident for the future of Inter. We think that we can have a good season in the league and also in the Europa League and this summer's transfer window showed our devotion and interest. ... We want to win and to make profits and with our investment plan, we're convinced we can lead Inter back to being one of the top clubs in the world." The Chinese government is also behind Suning's investment in Inter Milan and Yang Yang "explained how running the Serie A club should have a positive impact on the development of the game in China." Yang Yang: "For us, this investment in Inter is in view to a long period. We want to continue investing and, if necessary, improving the team. ... We're taking our duties seriously, but yes -- we are in it for the long term" (ESPN.com, 9/6).
