German Sports Network Sport1 Agrees To Content Cooperation With DAZN

German sports network Sport1 and Perform Group’s OTT service DAZN have agreed to a content cooperation. The partnership will include a number of live, on-demand and highlight rights. Sport1 will add int’l football leagues and WTA tennis tournaments to its program, while DAZN will receive rights to Germany’s Handball Bundesliga, ATP World Tour, hockey and darts. Sport1 declined to provide financial terms of the agreement. Starting this season, Sport1’s pay-TV channel, Sport1+, will show a variety of live matches from Serie A, Ligue 1, Scottish Premiership and Belgian Pro League, along with other int’l leagues and highlights from La Liga. In addition, free-to-air TV channel Sport1 will feature the best goals and most spectacular moments from the various leagues in the “Goooal!” magazine show on Tuesday evenings. Sport1 viewers will also see highlights from the Premier League, which exclusively airs on DAZN in Germany, on Monday evenings. Online and mobile rights are part of the deal as well. The WTA rights package will kick off in '17 and run through '19, with tournaments set to air on Sport1 and Sport1+. “This cooperation between DAZN and Sport1 is the perfect way to fulfill our promise of putting the fans first,” DAZN CCO John Gleasure said in a statement. A Sport1 spokesperson told SBD Global that joint original programs are currently not planned.
