Top European Clubs To Receive More Than €100M In Champions League Revenue

Europe's top clubs are set to earn over €100M ($111.5M) "following changes to the distribution of Champions League revenue," German magazine kicker reported, according to Stephan Uersfeld of ESPN.com. In late August, UEFA announced "several changes to the competition" would be made from the '18-19 season onward. But European football's governing body has yet to make public its plans on "how exactly the revenue distribution will change." According to a report in kicker, "the new revenue distribution could see top clubs" earning over €100M per season. The paper published a simulation for the '18-19 season, "which forecast that the total marketing revenues will rise" from €2.35B ($2.62B) at which they currently stand to €3.2B ($3.6B) for all UEFA competitions, the Champions League, the Europa League and the Super Cup. In the '15-16 season, €1.3B ($1.45B) will be distributed to UCL participants. Kicker claimed that 25% of the income "will be from the starting fee," 30% will come from the "actual performance" and 15% from the market pool, which depends on "the individual contracts in each country" (ESPN.com, 9/5).
