Championship Side Brentford Closer To Realizing Lionel Road Stadium 'Dream'

Championship side Brentford has acquired the land needed for its new Lionel Road stadium "after the London Borough of Hounslow completed a compulsory purchase order," according to Matt Lewis of GET WEST LONDON. By finalizing the CPO, the council has "taken freehold possession of the Lionel Road South, Duffy and Capital Court sites." Brentford is taking control of this land "through lease arrangements and the freehold will be returned to the football club upon the completion of the Brentford Community Stadium." It brings an 18-month acquisition process to an end and is regarded as "a significant milestone in Brentford’s bid" to realize its Lionel Road "dream." In the interim, Brentford must turn its attention back to its current home "with question marks over seating arrangements for next season." Brentford's current Griffin Park ground has terracing which, by English Football League rules, "will need to be replaced by seats at the end of this season" (GET WEST LONDON, 9/1).
