Australian Sports Commission CEO SIMON HOLLINGSWORTH has "resigned after five years in charge of the federal government's sports funding and policy arm." He will return to Melbourne "where he will take a senior position in budget and finance with the Victorian government." Hollingsworth headed the ASC "during its controversial Winning Edge program, which drew savage criticism following Australia's less than expected medal yield at the Rio Olympics." Hollingsworth, a Rhodes Scholar, will "remain with the ASC until the end of September" when Australian Institute of Sport Dir MATT FAVIER will assume interim responsibilities, ahead of a search for a permanent replacement (THE AGE, 8/29). ... GARY WEISS has joined the Australian Rugby League Commission "to bolster the code's strategic planning." Weiss has "served on the boards of some of Australia’s leading companies and investment firms," including the Westfield Group, Tower Australia, ClearView Wealth and Tyndall Australia, and has been a close associate of New Zealand tycoon RON BRIERLEY, and former Coles Myer Chair SOLOMON LEW (THE AUSTRALIAN, 8/31). ... Watkins Glen Int'l promoted Senior Dir of Facilities & Operations CHRIS CORNETT to VP/facilities & operations (WGI).

COACHES/MANAGERS: Argentine first division side Racing named RICARDO ZIELINSKI its new coach. He replaces interim coach CLAUDIO UBEDA. Racing Dir ROBERTO TORRES said that the contract will run through June '17 (LA NACION, 8/29). ... Starting next week French national fencing Manager HUGUES OBRY will "wear the Chinese team's colors." He will take charge of the men's and women's teams in China. Obry announced last month that "he would leave his post as France's national fencing team head coach after the Rio Olympics" (L’ÉQUIPE, 8/29).
