Kenyan Olympic Officials Under Criminal Investigation

Kenya is "risking sanctions from the IOC" after the sports minister said that he had "disbanded the national Olympic body and three of its senior officials were arrested and face a criminal investigation relating to alleged abuse of office during the Rio de Janeiro Games," according to the AP. National Olympic Committee of Kenya Chair Kip Keino warned of repercussions from the IOC "if he was also put under arrest alongside the three officials." Two-time Olympic champion Keino said, "(The) IOC are waiting for me to be put in (jail) and when they put me in, Kenya will be banned. We will not take part in the next Olympics." Prosecutors said that the criminal investigation into the NOCK officials "relates to alleged theft of team uniforms and equipment at the Olympics that was provided by sponsor Nike" (AP, 8/31).
