League Notes: Panel Says Pakistan Cricket Board Not Helping Hindu Player

Members of a parliamentary committee on Monday alleged that the Pakistan Cricket Board is "not helping Danish Kaneria to fight his case" against a lifetime ban imposed by the England & Wales Cricket Board "because he belongs to Hindu community." PML-N lawmaker Ramesh Kumar Vankvani said, "PCB is not providing financial and legal assistance to Kaneria because he is a Hindu by faith." While supporting the arguments of Vankvani, committee member Iqbal Muhammad Ali said, "Kaneria has no money and cannot fight the case on his own" (DAWN, 8/29).

CONCUSSION RESEARCH: Preaching the "importance of independence in concussion research," Australia's eight leading player unions have "banded together in a bid to improve brain health for sportspeople." The Australian Athletes Alliance on Tuesday unveiled its new concussion working group, "a collaborative measure aimed at bringing together figures from across Australia's major sports in a joint battle against the debilitating impact of concussion in sport." Players' associations for cricket, Australian Football League, netball, basketball, football, rugby league and rugby union -- as well as the Australians Jockeys' Association -- will "work together in sharing information to guarantee Australian athletes receive the best care and are recipients of cutting-edge research in the area of sports concussion" (THE AGE, 8/30).
