Media Notes: Tencent Sports Acquires Full NBA Media Rights For $30M

Tencent Sports has reportedly "obtained the League Pass copyright of the NBA after paying" another 200M RMB ($30M) for the next four seasons. It means that Tencent Sports "will have the broadcasting rights" of all 1,230 NBA games each season. Last year, Tencent Sports "introduced its own pay-to-watch systems." This year it is "very likely to promote new choices for NBA fans." For example, it will "design a bespoke viewership package" for Golden State Warriors fans to watch all Warriors games (YUTANG SPORTS, 8/25).

STAYING PUT: The Canal+ Group has “renewed its TV rights deal with the NHL” for the next three seasons. The NHL will “remain exclusively on Canal+ channels.” The offering “is expected to be identical to the previous season,” with two matches per week broadcast at night on Canal+ Sport and the entire Stanley Cup playoffs broadcast live on Canal+ starting in June. The renewal of the NHL rights “bolsters the ice hockey offering” from Canal+ which already shows the Ice Hockey World Championships 2017 and the Ice Hockey World Cup 2016 (MEDIA SPORTIF, 8/25).

BAYERN APP: Bundesliga side Bayern Munich selected Omnigon to design and develop is suite of all-new iOS and Android smartphone and tablet apps. The apps, released in both English and German, launched in advance of the upcoming '16-17 season. Features of the apps include a Match Center with full match statistics, scores, fixtures and tables (from the Bundesliga, Champions League and DFB Cup), news and photo galleries. There is also a Squad page with detailed statistics and full profiles of all Bayern players (Bayern Munich).
