Scottish Clubs Set For £200,000 Payday After Celtic's Champions League Success

Scottish Premiership sides will gain over £200,000 ($264,550) each "following Celtic's progression to the Champions League group stage," according to STV. Teams in this season's top flight "will benefit from a solidarity payment handed out to leagues with participants in Europe's top club competition after Brendan Rodgers' men beat Hapoel Be'er Sheva 5-4 on aggregate." While Scottish clubs "can bank on the money," they will not receive the cash from UEFA until Sept. '17. Celtic will gain a minimum of €25M ($28M) "due to vastly increased participation money and TV cash." The potential payouts "do not end there." Clubs net €1.5M ($1.7M) per win in the group stage and €500,000 ($563,170) per draw (STV, 8/24).
