Men's Football Gold Medal Match Draws More Than 8 Million Viewers On ARD

German public broadcaster ARD recorded more than 8 million viewers for its Olympics broadcast on Saturday, according to Daniel Sallhoff of QUOTENMETER. The Gold Medal men's football game between Germany and Brazil drew an average of 8.25 million viewers starting at 10:27pm. The number translated into a 43.6% market share. In the target demographic 14-49, Brazil's victory obtained a 34% share as 2.34 million viewers tuned in. Olympic mountain biking attracted 4.53 million viewers (18.4%) and women's golf had an 18.8% share as 4.9 million viewers tuned in. Rhythmic gymnastics had an 18.2% share and attracted 4.82 million viewers in prime time. During the day, the women's kayak drew a 33.3% share and a viewership of 3.85 million at 2pm. The most successful event during the day was modern pentathlon. ARD's coverage attracted 5.4 million viewers and a 29.2% share. In addition to the 2016 Rio Games, the channel showed DFB-Pokal (German Cup) highlights at around 6:04pm. The program drew 4.37 million viewers, including 1.03 million in the target demo. The corresponding market shares were 24.9% and 20.3%, respectively (QUOTENMETER, 8/21).
