La Liga President Javier Tebas Hailing Absence Of 'Wars And Debt' Ahead Of '16-17 Season

La Liga President Javier Tebas has hailed the absence of "wars and debt" on the eve of the opening day in Spain as a positive outlook for the future, according to FOOTBALL ESPANA. The end of the previous two La Liga campaigns were "respectively marked by a strike over the distribution of TV money and match-fixing conspiracies, while the amount of unpaid wages owed to its players remained a cause for concern," but no such issues have "threatened to affect" the '16-17 season. Tebas said, "There are always people who are unhappy and reject [my ideas], especially the ultras, but that makes me happy. The feeling I get is that most people are happy with [the League’s] management. I will call for [presidential] elections soon, but it’s the first time that, finally, we’ll start a La Liga campaign without talking about television wars or debt" (FOOTBALL ESPANA, 8/19).
