Media Notes: Top Asian Operators To Gain Pay-TV Market Share

Pay-TV subscriptions for the top 65 operators across 17 countries covered in the Asia Pacific Pay TV Operator Forecasts report "will increase by nearly 100 million" from a collective 438 million in '15 to 536 million by '21. Covering 87 platforms, these operators will climb from 81% of Asia-Pacific pay-TV subscribers in '15 to 83% by '21. The top 10 operators "will continue to account for two-thirds of subscribers over the next five years" (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 8/17).

This season, the German Football League (DFL) will for the first time be broadcast in Ultra HD. Following the launch, plans are to initially produce one game per matchday in UHD which will be broadcast by national TV partner Sky Deutschland. There have also been early expressions of interest in the UHD content from the Bundesliga’s int'l TV partners. The planned launch to market of Bundesliga transmissions in UHD was preceded by a test phase in collaboration with DFL subsidiary Sportcast and with Sky (Bundesliga).

Digital Domain announced that it will bring its virtual reality capabilities to Rio de Janeiro for a major sporting event. Digital Domain will debut Zeus, its new 360-degree VR camera, which is the latest addition to Digital Domain's VR technology. The Digital Domain team will be shooting, packaging and distributing over 250 hours of VR content (Digital Domain).
