France's LFP, Canal+ In Talks To Decide Ligue 1 Match Scheduling

Canal Plus’ Ligue 1 offering “will be expanded this season with an extra match being broadcast to subscribers of the pay-TV channel,” according to MEDIA SPORTIF. Discussions are “currently underway” between the French Professional Football League (LFP) and Canal Plus “on the distribution of matches on its channels.” Canal Plus will likely show two matches on Canal+ Sport but “this plan is contrary to the requirements of the LFP, which dictates that at least two matches are broadcast on the premium channel.” If the broadcaster “wins its case, the 5pm Saturday match will be shown on Canal+ Sport.” Another dispute between the LFP and Canal Plus “concerns the scheduling of the Sunday night match.” The LFP placed kickoff at 8:45pm, which “has been met with reluctance from Canal Plus.” As of now, the Sunday night match will be played at 8:45pm (MEDIA SPORTIF, 8/12).
