The Tennis Queensland board announced that Quinlan, also CEO of Tennis West in Perth, "will in addition take on the role as Tennis Queensland CEO." COACHES/MANAGERS
STANISLAV CHERCHESOV has been named Russia's "new head coach and given a target of leading the hosts" to the 2018 World Cup semifinals. The ex-Soviet Union and Russia keeper, 52, coached Legia Warsaw to the Polish league and cup double "last term before leaving by mutual consent." LEONID SLUTSKY "resigned as Russia coach in June" (BBC, 8/11). ... Ascenso MX side Venados de Yucatán named JOSÉ LUIS SÁNCHEZ SOLÁ its head coach. The club announced the hire on Twitter (LA AFICIÓN, 8/10). ... La Liga side Villarreal announced the "surprise departure" of coach MARCELINO GARCIA TORAL just a week before its Champions League playoff round first-leg clash with Monaco. The 50-year-old, who joined the club in '13, "steered the Yellow Submarine to a fourth-place finish in La Liga last term and had been active in the transfer market this summer." The club revealed the news on its official website on Wednesday evening. Reports in Spain suggest MANUEL PELLEGRINI, who left Man City in the summer, "could return to El Madrigal as head coach" (PA, 8/10).
