U.K.-Based Perform Group Launching OTT Sports Portal DAZN In Germany

U.K.-based media company Perform Group "has launched its OTT live sports portal DAZN" (Da Zone) in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, according to Jörn Krieger of BROADBAND TV NEWS. For €9.99 ($11.16) per month, internet users can watch live games of the Premier League "previously shown by pay-TV broadcaster Sky Deutschland" as well as Serie A, Ligue 1 and La Liga. The matches are "available on demand following the live transmission." In addition to football, DAZN also shows games of the German Handball Bundesliga, tennis series ATP World Tour and WTA, NBA, NFL, Ice hockey Champions League (CHL) and Professional Darts Corporation. Up to 20 live sports events "can be shown at the same time." From the '16 season, DAZN will screen the highlights of all games of the first and second-division German football Bundesliga -- "initially through a collaboration with current rights holder Axel Springer." From '17-18, Perform Group "will hold the rights itself." For its German-language service, the company has "built up a team of more than 100 editors, commentators and on air promoters at its production base in Ismaning near Munich" (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 8/10).
