Irvine Meadow Could Be First Football Club To Serve Booze In Scotland

A junior football club "could be the first" in Scotland to serve alcohol on its terraces later this month, according to Ross Dunn of the Scotland DAILY RECORD. Irvine Meadow has "sensationally bagged a one-off license for the Marymass derby set to take place next week." The "unprecedented move" could be a first for Scottish football. Based on the terracing between the main stand and the Wilson Avenue end, "the outdoor boozer will be able to serve punters alcoholic refreshments throughout the game." Only beer and cider will be available for fans "from 6pm up until 9pm." Police Scotland said that the move was "given the go ahead" by North Ayrshire licensing chiefs this week. Irvine Meadow Chair Robert Jeffrey said, "It's a big game and the club is always very busy so we decided to apply for an outside license, so we're quite happy with that." He added that there will not be "any additional police" at the game (DAILY RECORD, 8/10).
