Former Australia captain MICHAEL CLARKE has been "made an honorary life member of the Marylebone Cricket Club." He retired from all forms of the game in '15 but has "since made a comeback and played in the Hong Kong T20 Blitz." Clarke joins SHANE WARNE, GLENN MCGRATH and RICKEY PONTING "on the list of Australian honorary life members" (BBC, 8/9). ... Australia's first world champion surfer, BERNARD FARRELLY, "has passed away" aged 71. Inducted into the Australia Sports Hall of Fame in '85, Farrelly "was crowned world champion in 1964, winning the very first official championship in Manly." At the age of 17, Farrelly "became the leader of Dee Why Surfing Fraternity" in '60 -- the club is still active. He appeared in several surfing movies, and "produced two books -- A Surfing Life and How to Surf" (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 8/8).
