Germany's Sport1 Acquires Distribution Rights For Entire World Cup Of Hockey 2016

Sport1 has acquired from the National Hockey League the platform-neutral distribution rights to all games of the World Cup of Hockey 2016, exclusively for Germany and non-exclusively for Austria and Switzerland. IMG Media has been involved in a consulting role and was responsible for the contract negotiation. The two-week int'l hockey tournament, organized by the NHL and the NHL Players' Association in cooperation with the Int'l Ice Hockey Federation, will take place in Toronto from Sept. 17 through Oct. 1. The license package also includes the rights to all pre-tournament games, which will be played from Sept. 8-14 in North America and Europe. This takes the total number of live games on free-TV on Sport1 as well as on pay-TV channel Sport1 US to 29 (Sport1).
