Event Notes: U.S. Submits Bid To Host Rugby League World Cup For First Time

The U.S. has submitted a bid for the 2021 Rugby League World Cup as it seeks to host the tournament for the first time. England, which hosted it in '13, "has already announced" it will bid for '21. The U.S. proposal has been put forward by Sydney-based sports marketing company Moore Sports Int'l (BBC, 8/2).

SAFETY FIRSTAtlético Madrid has "decided against travelling to Turkey" to face Galatasaray in a friendly on Saturday due to security concerns. Atlético was due to play at the Turk Telekom Arena in the Turkish capital this weekend as part of its preparations for the '16-17 campaign. Atlético is reportedly "looking to set up another game at short notice" (ESPN.com, 8/2).

PARIS CONFIRMED: The Vélodrome National in Paris has been confirmed as the host venue for the opening weekend of the Revolution Champions League from Nov. 18-19 on Eurosport and Eurosport Player. The announcement sees the U.K. track cycling series expand into Europe for the first time to coincide with the launch of the new Champions League competition (EUROSPORT, 8/2).

CA CHOOSES GEELONG: Cricket Australia announced the National Cricket Inclusion Championships (NCIC) will be held in Geelong for the next three years with the support of a multi-year investment from the Victorian government. The first NCIC, which will feature 14 teams and more than 200 players, will be staged in Geelong from Jan. 17-24. The Championships will consist of three divisions: blind and vision impaired, deaf and hard of hearing, and cricketers with intellectual disability. It will be the first time in Australia that these three divisions will be played as part of one competition (CA).
