TVE Pays Mediapro Total Of $6.6M For La Liga, Copa Summary Rights Through '19

After it was announced weeks ago how "TV rights for La Liga and the Copa del Rey would be distributed for the next three years," it was revealed on Tuesday that TVE had acquired from Mediapro the summaries of La Liga and Copa del Rey matches for €6M ($6.6M) -- an average of €2M ($2.2M) per year -- through '19, according to Jorge Fernández Maldonado of AS. TVE "paid that amount to acquire content that -- unlike last year -- it will not have exclusive rights to." The rights belong to Mediapro, which will pay €27M ($30M) over the next three years for the package. Mediapro's "intention is to maximize the profit from this investment, as the summaries can be resold to various operators" (AS, 7/27).
