In-game clips from the Premier League "are set to be shown on Twitter" for the '16-17 season, according to Samuel Lovett of the London INDEPENDENT. The social media platform has teamed up with Sky Sports to provide U.K. and Irish followers with "real-time footage on their mobiles." This follows the "recent success" enjoyed by Twitter, which collaborated with the BBC to "provide live streams and behind-the-scenes insights from Wimbledon." The Premier League content will be available via Sky's @SkyFootball Twitter account where fans "will be treated to key goals and decisions broadcast from the matches, as well as post-match analysis" (INDEPENDENT, 7/27). In London, Sean Gibson reported sharing of video highlights online during matches is prevalent and, "despite warnings that social media users may be breaching copyright, it has become a tricky phenomenon to police." Sky Sports will now publish its own in-game highlights via its official Twitter account, "with footage from the Premier League as well as the English Football League." Games broadcast by rival BT Sport "will not be exempt from the highlights deal." It "remains to be seen whether the move will stem the flow of amateur and non-official footage circulating on social media" on matchdays (TELEGRAPH, 7/27). The PA reported this latest announcement "extends Twitter’s growing presence in the world of sport," with the social media platform having already run a similar highlights package during Euro 2016 and "offered live and behind-the-scenes coverage of this year's Wimbledon via its live streaming service, Periscope" (PA, 7/27).
