Data from research firm Repucom revealed that Formula E, the auto racing series which features electric cars, "had just 4% of the cumulative global television audience of Formula One in its inaugural season," according to Christian Sylt for FORBES. The second season of Formula E "wrapped up earlier this month with a race in London which crowned Renault e.dams driver Sebastien Buemi the champion." It "took place just one week before F1’s British Grand Prix so comparisons were inevitable." A Repucom report compiled in December compares the TV exposure of F1’s '15 season with that of Formula E’s debut "which began in September 2014 and ended in June last year." It reveals that Formula E’s cumulative TV audience came to 61.5 million "which is 24.6 times less than the 1.5 billion who watched F1." Repucom’s audience total is cumulative, meaning that viewers "are counted separately each time they watch a broadcast." According to Repucom, in Formula E’s first season, "the average cumulative audience across each of its races came to 6.1 million compared to 79.6 million for F1." The contrast "is all the more stark given that Formula E had 11 races compared to 19 in F1." The most-watched Formula E race "was the finale in London which consisted of two rounds one day after another and had a cumulative audience of 9.8 million" (FORBES, 7/18).
