Olympic Notes: Jamaica Says Country's Anti-Doping Measures 'Model' For Others

Rio Games-bound athletes from Jamaica "went through a drug-testing program the head of the Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) calls a 'model for many other countries.'" JOA President Mike Fennell said that the "tiny nation known for producing dominant sprinters has not veered off course since receiving high marks from the World Anti-Doping Agency early last year in its efforts toward beefing up drug testing." He said, "We're satisfied that Jamaica has been carrying its responsibility for testing and monitoring anti-doping procedures which can be a model for many other countries" (REUTERS, 7/12).

The Rio 2016 Paralympics will be the setting for a program in which images captured by some of the best sports photographers will be made freely available across social media platforms. The program is a joint initiative between the Olympic Information Service and the Int'l Paralympic Committee. Behind the lenses are four multi-award winning Sports Illustrated photographers in Bob Martin, Simon Bruty, Al Tielemans, and Tom Lovelock. All photos will be made available via a custom website www.OISPhotos.com -- which will go live Sept. 1 -- with curated sets also published on the IPC official website (IPC).

The Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games Bid Committee has hailed the success of UEFA Euro 2016 as further proof of Paris’ and France’s expertise and experience in hosting major int'l sports events. Paris 2024 co-Chair Bernard Lapasset: "France already has a first-class track record in hosting major sports events and the successful Euro is further evidence of the country’s exceptional hosting capabilities. The excitement and celebrations that we have seen in full to capacity stadia and fan zones has been truly inspirational" (Paris 2024).
