All Stars Women's Australian Football League Match Set To Be Played In 2017

An All Stars women’s Australian Football League match featuring the best players from the eight foundation national league clubs "is set to be played in 2017," according to Eliza Sewell of the HERALD SUN. The national women’s league "will be played in February and March next year over an eight-week period." Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs "will play in an exhibition match under lights at the Whitten Oval on Saturday, September 3, as the showcase match of the pre-finals bye round." The best players in the country "will feature, including the 16 marquee players who are expected to sign with NWL clubs in the next fortnight." Leading player Daisy Pearce said that "the match should continue in some form next year." Pearce said, "This could become like an All-Australian hitout, a great opportunity to give the women’s game some legs throughout the rest of the season." AFL GM of Game & Market Development Simon Lethlean "backed the idea." Lethlean said, "To have the best 50 women in the competition playing, it’s a great showcase, we’ll look at it for next year" (HERALD SUN, 7/13).
