Chivas Guadalajara Exec José Luis Higuera Presents Chivas TV, Reveals Prices

Liga MX side Chivas Guadalajara owner Grupo Omnilife CEO José Luis Higuera on Wednesday presented Chivas TV, according to Adriana Terrazas of ESPN. Due to the problems that Chivas expects "with a new path through Internet connectivity in the country," Higuera asked for "patience from fans," but highlighted that "only a club like Chivas can face such a challenge." He explained, "It is a strong pressure, this is Chivas ... This is what we want to carry on Chivas TV." Higuera explained that "part of this challenge is maintaining the ideology of only playing Mexican players despite challenges like relegation." He also denied that he had received a proposal for $40M for the club's TV rights. Chivas TV will begin operations on July 1 through an Internet site and mobile app, "knowing that there are several challenges to face, including limits on the Internet connectivity that fans will have." Higuera said that the minimum Internet speed to access the broadcasts will be 2 megabytes per second, and revealed that Chivas TV will be the first OTT platform in Latin America (ESPN, 6/29). In Mexico City, Hernández & Martínez reported Higuera detailed the costs of subscription. A total package will cost 2,750 pesos ($149) and include 17 Liga MX games. A promotion along with the launch will offer the package for 1,999 pesos ($108) from July 2-14. If a fan wants to pay for Chivas TV for one game, the cost will range from 125 pesos ($6.76) to 500 pesos ($27) (EL UNIVERSAL, 6/29).
