Former TVB sports desk head FUNG KIN SHING joined LeSports HK "to help create its sports entertainment content." Before he joined LeSports HK, Fung was a sports reporter and anchor at different local TV stations (YUTANG SPORTS, 6/22). ... WWE confirmed that the president of the WWE Int'l division, GERRIT MEIER, has left the company after more than three years. WWE hired Meier to be part of its senior management team in March '13. Previously, Meier had been the global GM for distribution & partnerships at Spotify and had worked on the creation of the iHeartRadio brand for Clear Channel Media and Entertainment (WRESTLING INC., 6/21). ... One of Australia’s highest-profile Indigenous women, TANYA HOSCH, has been appointed to lead the Australian Football League’s “campaign to battle violence against women.” The Torres Strait Islander will join the AFL exec “in a new super portfolio to promote diversity and social inclusion covering race, gender, multiculturalism, sexuality and disability.” Hosch was “headhunted to fill the AFL role after four years as co-campaign director of Recognise, the campaign to win support for constitutional recognition of Indigenous Australians” (THE AGE, 6/22).

VOLVO OCEAN RACE APPOINTMENTS
: The Volvo Ocean Race named race management expert PHIL LAWRENCE its new race director. The re-shuffle follows MARK TURNER’s appointment as CEO in March. Lawrence is currently race director of the Extreme Sailing Series and previously managed events in all of the territories that the Volvo Ocean Race will visit during the '17-18 edition. Lawrence will work closely with current Race Dir JACK LLOYD, who will remain as a race adviser. Lloyd has held the post of race director for three editions. In other changes announced on Tuesday, CFO ANTONIO BOLAÑOS LÓPEZ will become managing director. He had been acting CEO of the Volvo Ocean Race from February until Turner took up his role full time last week, replacing former CEO KNUT FROSTAD. In addition, five-time Volvo Ocean Race sailor RICHARD MASON, employed as head of host port operations in '15, will become operations director. JORDI NEVES, formerly technology director, is now chief digital officer. Meanwhile, MILES QUITMAN will join the Volvo Ocean Race in the newly-created role of chief business development officer, with a focus on developing new relationships with potential sponsors for both teams and the event in the future (Volvo Ocean Race).

COACHES/MANAGERS: Argentine first division side San Lorenzo announced that it signed DIEGO AGUIRRE to a one-year contract to coach the club. He replaces PABLO GUEDE (CLARÍN, 6/21). ... La Liga side Alavés announced that it sacked coach JOSÉ BORDALÁS, who helped the club earn promotion from the second division. Bordalás previously coached Spanish second division side Elche (INFORMACIÓN, 6/22). ... Chinese Super League side Jiangsu Suning said that CHOI YONG-SOO has become the fifth South Korean coach in this CSL season “after agreeing a two-and-a-half year deal to move from FC Seoul to Jiangsu Suning.” Choi, who led Seoul to the quarterfinals of the Asian Football Confederation Champions League this year, “will take over from July 1.” He replaces Romania’s DAN PETRESCU, “who was sacked earlier this month” (REUTERS, 6/22). ... Architectural firm HOK named Populous Associate Principal ALGEN WILLIAMS VP & regional leader of the sports, recreation & entertainment division (HOK).
