More Than 25 Million Viewers Tune In To Watch Germany's Euro 2016 Match On ARD

German public broadcaster ARD "recorded more than 25 million viewers for its broadcast of the Euro 2016 game between Germany and Northern Ireland," according to Manuel Nunez Sanchez of QUOTENMETER. The game attracted a total of 25.48 million viewers on Tuesday starting at 6pm. In the target demographic 14-49, Germany's 1-0 win was watched by 9.93 million viewers. ARD drew market shares of 78.5% and 82.2% in the target demo for its game coverage. German free-to-air TV channel Sat.1, which aired the game between Ukraine and Poland at the same time, obtained a 0.8% market share as only 230,000 watched the game's first half. The viewership increased to 290,000 during the second half but the market share remained at 0.8%. In the target demo, Poland's 1-0 win drew a peak audience of 110,000 viewers and market shares of 0.6% and 0.8% for the first and second half, respectively (QUOTENMETER, 6/22).

: In a separate piece, Nunez Sanchez reported ARD's "ratings dominance over Sat.1 continued during Tuesday's late evening games." The public broadcaster "outdrew the free-TV channel by more than 9.5 million viewers." ARD's coverage of the game between Spain and Croatia recorded 10.66 million viewers starting at 9pm. The number translated into a market share of 36.8%. In the target demo, Croatia's 2-1 victory over the defending champs obtained a 40.9% share as 4.38 million viewers tuned in. Meanwhile, Sat.1 drew a peak audience of 1.39 million viewers and a peak share of 5.4% during the second half of the game between the Czech Republic and Turkey. The first half of Turkey's 2-0 win recorded 1.06 million viewers. In the target demo, Sat.1's coverage drew 400,000 in the first half and 550,000 in the second half. The game had a peak market share of 5.6% in the target demo (QUOTENMETER, 6/22).
