UEFA Says It Will Not Investigate License Claims Regarding Scottish Side Rangers

UEFA will not investigate allegations that Scottish Premiership side Rangers "were incorrectly awarded" a license to play in European competition in the '11-12 season, according to Grant Russell of STV. A statement "draws a line under the matter from the governing body's point of view," saying Rangers' three-year exclusion from playing in Europe after going into liquidation "was the major factor in a case not being pursued." A group of Scottish Premiership side Celtic shareholders "have actively campaigned for a review of the decision for several years." Their questions centered on whether the Ibrox side "fully disclosed the details" of an unpaid £2.8M tax bill to U.K. tax authority HMRC (STV, 6/20).

FALSE ALARM: The PA reported UEFA confirmed that the stadium media center in Lille "was evacuated" ahead of Wednesday’s Republic of Ireland vs. Italy game "amid a bomb scare." It is understood people were asked to leave the media facility at the Stade Pierre Mauroy "as a precaution after police using sniffer dogs discovered a suspicious package" hours before the match was due to kick off (PA, 6/22).
