Donald Trump Will Detour From Presidential Campaign To Visit His Scottish Golf Courses

U.S. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump will take "a detour from the campaign trail this week to visit his golf resorts in Scotland," according to Steve Holland of REUTERS. Trump will leave Thursday on a three-day trip "centered on the grand reopening of Trump Turnberry," which the N.Y. businessman bought in '14 and renovated at an estimated cost of $290M. He will "also visit his other Scottish golf property in Aberdeen." His visit to Scotland, the birthplace of his mother, "comes as Britain votes on Thursday on whether to remain in the European Union" (REUTERS, 6/22).

RAISING MEXICAN FLAGS: In London, Severin Carrell reported two of Trump’s "keenest critics in Scotland" have hoisted Mexican flags next to his Aberdeenshire golf course to show "solidarity" with the Mexican people during his visit later this week. Trump will then fly north to Aberdeenshire on Saturday "to visit the far smaller course he opened there" in '12. Two of his neighbors, David Milne and Michael Forbes -- the man Trump once branded a "disgrace" and "his home a slum" -- have erected Mexican flags on their homes in plain view of Trump’s clubhouse and golf course. Milne said, "It’s just to show solidarity with the Mexican people and everyone else that Trump has derided, insulted and intimidated" (GUARDIAN, 6/21).
