More Than 13 Million Viewers Tune In To Watch Euro 2016 On German Channels ZDF, Sat.1

German TV channels ZDF and Sat.1 "drew a total of more than 13 million viewers for their Euro 2016 coverage on Sunday," according to Manuel Weis of QUOTENMETER. The matchup between France and Switzerland attracted 11.85 million viewers on public broadcaster ZDF. The number translated into a market share of 36%. In the target demographic 14-49, the goalless draw, which started at 9pm, obtained a 38.5% share. The game between Romania and Albania, which also kicked off at 9pm, drew eight times fewer viewers on Sat.1. The match, which Albania won 1-0, recorded a 3.1% market share during the first half as an average of 890,000 viewers tuned in. The viewership increased to 1.42 million during the second half. The market share also increased to 4.9% after halftime (QUOTENMETER, 6/20).

IN FRANCE: 20 MINUTES reported on Sunday, an average audience of 13.4 million viewers followed the Switzerland-France Euro 2016 match on M6 in France, a “historic record for the TV channel.” Only the sixth-largest channel in France, M6 attracted its largest audience since its creation for the 0-0 draw. The match had a peak audience of 15.9 million. M6’s online streaming service 6play registered more than 800,000 users during Sunday’s match. The audience numbers “may be a sign of things to come for M6 if France makes it to the final of the tournament.” M6 will broadcast the final on July 10 (20 MINUTES, 6/20). TF1’s Saturday broadcast of the Portugal-Austria match drew an average audience of 5.6 million, and translated to a 28% market share. The 0-0 draw had a peak audience of 7.7 million. The channel also showed Ireland’s 3-0 win over Belgium on Saturday. The match was watched by an average audience of 2.9 million, translating to a 27% market share. The match had a peak audience of 3.5 million (TF1).

BAKU DEBUT: QUOTENMETER's Björn Sülter reported German free-to-air TV channel RTL recorded more than 4.5 million viewers for its F1 broadcast on Sunday. The race from Baku, Azerbaijan, attracted a total of 4.6 million viewers and had a 27.4% market share. In the target demo, the race, which was won by Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg, obtained a 23.1% share as 1.41 million viewers tuned in. Saturday's qualifying session drew 1.49 million viewers (10.6%), including 460,000 in the target demo (9.2%).

LE MANS: Pan-European broadcaster Eurosport drew up to 330,000 viewers for its broadcast of the Le Mans 24-hour race finish from 2:55-3pm on Sunday. German free-TV channel DMAX, which also aired the finish, recorded 120,000 viewers over the same time period. Over the complete 24 hours, Eurosport obtained a market share of 1.1%. In the target demographic male 20-50, the channel's market share was 2.3% (QUOTENMETER, 6/20).
