Australian Rugby Union Renews Deal With Banking Partner HSBC

The Australian Rugby Union secured a "major financial coup with HSBC renewing its deal as the ARU’s banking partner until the end of the 2019 World Cup," according to Jamie Pandaram of the Sydney DAILY TELEGRAPH. The Wallabies also have sponsorship deals with Qantas and BMW. HSBC also sponsors the Sevens World Series, and HSBC Australia CEO Tony Cripps said that the growth of women’s sevens "has them confident about their investment in the game" (DAILY TELEGRAPH, 6/16). In Sydney, Will Swanton reported ARU CEO Bill Pulver said that the renewal of the initial three-year contract "was an endorsement of the Wallabies as a top-shelf global sporting brand." Pulver said, "Following a successful World Cup campaign in 2015, HSBC’s sponsorship renewal is a real vote of confidence for the game as a whole and our continued growth in Australia" (THE AUSTRALIAN, 6/17).
