Spanish Basketball Club Movistar Estudiantes Keeps Place In Top Tier

For "the second time in four years," Spanish basketball club Movistar Estudiantes will recover in the offices "what it lost on the court," according to Darío Ojeda of EL CONFIDENCIAL. The team will remain in the Spanish Basketball League (ACB) for another year because neither second-tier LEB Oro champion Quesos Cerrato Palencia nor playoff winner Melilla -- which earned on-court promotion -- "can meet the requirements to enter the ACB." The ACB announced on Tuesday that Palencia and Melilla "asked to delay their promotion for a year, the same solution that Ourense agreed to in '15." In the last five years, only two of the 10 teams that have earned promotion on the court have been able to secure it financially. The "rest were not able to afford" the nearly €7M ($7.8M) fee to register in the ACB (EL CONFIDENCIAL, 6/14).
