Football Federation Australia Set To Announce New A-League Boss Soon

Football Federation Australia "expects to announce the new boss of the A-League in a matter of weeks with the list of candidates whittled down to five, including two applicants from overseas," according to Dominic Bossi of the SYDNEY MORNING HERALD. After four years at the helm, Damien De Bohun "will step down as the competition's chief on Friday with the FFA confident of naming his replacement before the end of June." Among the final shortlist of candidates still in the running to replace De Bohun "is an experienced administrator currently in charge of a football league abroad, while the other overseas applicant has a background in sports broadcasting." The identity of the three domestic applicants "remains unknown though sources suggest they are known within Australian sport." FFA CEO David Gallop "remained tight-lipped on the interview process when questioned on Thursday but confirmed the appointment will be made based on the ability to make the 10 A-League clubs financially sustainable." After months of off-field uncertainty, Brisbane Roar's owners "look to have secured a sale of their controlling stake in the club" with a consortium led by Australian businessman and new Roar Managing Dir Daniel Cobb set to be announced. It "remains to be seen whether the sale will be partial or complete though current owners" (SMH, 6/9).
